More on the Lost Genre Guild

Trying to define Christian speculative fiction is sometimes like trying to herd chickens or sweep water, but The Lost Genre Guild has made a strong effort. Take a look at their definition here.

Check out their examples in the left column. They've done a nice job enlarging the boundaries for Christian speculative fiction to include topics I hadn't thought of. How about space opera? Or cyberpunk?

Their list of featured books include some recent offerings that are excellent, such as Shade and Never Ceese. Take a look.

Launching The Lost Genre Guild

The Lost Genre Guild is a group of artists banding together to promote the lost genre of Christian speculative fiction. Take a look at their website.

I love this statement on their website: "Seeing as God monopolized creativity an infinity ago...." The link between God and creativity is often overlooked, even by Christians. How can we limit creativity?

The Lost Genre Guild is seeking to promote Christian speculative fiction.

The Christian Science Fiction/Fantasy group is touring the Lost Genre Guild this week. Take a look at what others have written about this new endeavor:

We're in countdown time now. Jeff Gerke's Marcher Lord Press will break down the door on October 1, placing three new books on the table for fantasy fans.If you haven't visited Jeff's site yet, the intro page alone is worth the price of admission.

I met Jeff at a writer's conference earlier this year and was impressed with his energy, wit and commitment to quality writing. He brings a fresh voice to fantasy publication. You should also check out his writing site: Where the Map Ends.

I'll be posting a review on The Personifid Invasion tomorrow.

Marcher Lord Press

I recently sat under the teaching of Jeff Gerke, aka Jefferson Scott, at a Christian writers’ conference. “You can’t sell Christian fantasy to the Christian market,” he told our fiction-writing class. “But look at the teenagers who are here. They’re all writing fantasy.”

Jeff wondered what that meant for the future of Christian fantasy – and so do I.

In fact, I came home from the conference with a new agenda: to write with my own teenagers who were both writing – guess what: fantasy.

I understand that publishing companies, Christian and otherwise, are concerned with their bottom line. And, as Jeff so eloquently pointed out, the biggest customers for CBA are women who are purchasing books for women. Christian romance, for example, is selling very well.

Fantasy, not so much.

Many women don’t buy fantasy.

Jeff hopes to be ready for the change he sees coming when our teenagers are book-buying and book-writing adults. He’s started an independent publishing company, Marcher Lord Press, with the first books to be launched on Oct. 1, 2008. We’ll track that progress here.

If you’re an author of speculative fiction, check out Marcher Lord Press submission requirements. If you’re a reader of speculative fiction, get ready for some fresh work about to appear.

Head on over to Marcher Lord Press to sign up for free prizes. And be sure to indicate that Kathy Brasby referred you. (I get more chances that way.)
